We learn in the very first chapter that Candide has “an honest mind with a great simplicity of heart." Later, in chapter twenty-five, the narrator tells us that Candide “had been trained never to judge for himself." These descriptions seem to say that Candide is an unthinking (and therefore unchanging) witness to the world . . . until the last chapter.
You will need to use your copy of Candide in order to effectively respond to the questions in this study quiz. You may also refer to any hand-written notes. You many not use anything else.
Since you have a variety of versions of the text, it is impossible to provide page numbers that work for all. All of the questions deal with the final three chapters, though. Keep in mind, too, that translations may vary, so the exact words in the questions may not be the same as in your copy.
