You should do this in class today.
Big budget Hollywood productions do a lot of work to create the illusion that what we are watching is realistic--or at least realistic enough for us to believe for the purposes of the story.
After watching the end of the 1980s' film Lucas, craft a response to the following:
- What kinds (note the plural) of things have the people who made the movie done to make the film look and sound like it's real?
- Consider the final scene (Lucas gets a gift from the football team.). In what ways is the scene (and the entire movie, really) not an example of realism? (Realism: life as it is rather than how we might wish it to be.)
If you are at home and not joining class synchronously, you should watch the two clips from the film on YouTube below. You won't catch all the nuance that the in class students will see, but it should be enough to do the assignment.
Lucas tries to prove himself to the girl who rejected his romantic interests and the whole school.
