Satire: Pentagon Wars ICA

We will watch a portion of a film called Pentagon Wars, which is a satire about the way the higher-ups in the Pentagon make decisions.

After we watch the excerpt, please respond to the questions below:

 

  1. Satire uses humor for a didactic purpose. What about what you saw is humorous (or intended to be so)? What lesson(s) do you suppose a viewer of this is intended to learn (or at least pick up on)?
  2. What changes might you suggest to fix or improve the problems the video raises?
  3. Satire only works if people see in it's "mirror" something that strikes them as true about the part of life it captures. What strikes you as real, authentic in the world in which we live and what we know--or think we know--about the bureaucracy of the military in the United States.
