Digital Component(s) for Research Project Overview and Criteria

The paper you write must be 10-12 pages (not counting works cited) of double-spaced, size twelve, Times New Roman text.

YOU MAY reduce the length of what you write by one or two pages by creating digital components (e.g. infographic, time-line, etc.). Make one, and your page length goes down by one; make two and your page length requirement goes down by one.

  • This is entirely optional.
    • Understand, however, that doing this is part of the essay you're submitting.
    • The content is as grade-able as anything you write.
    • Avoiding plagiarism is as vital with this content as with what you write.
      • N.B. Plagiarism also includes stealing images or other digital content without proper attribution.

If you choose to do this, I am suggesting that you use either Canva or Sutori, though there are other apps and platforms that you might use as well.

Criteria

  • The most important criteria for this is that YOU make it (rather than simple re-posting of something someone else make.
    • You MUST provide a link to anything you do not make yourself!
  • It is also important that the digital component adds value to your project.  You should use this option only if doing something digitally works better or is more effective that writing.
    • This is also a place to use/show things you learn about your topic that may not fit in well into the essay you write.
  • It is also important that you consider carefully the design elements (i.e. it should look nice and be easy to interact with).
  • You will be linking to this (these) component in an appendix toward the end of your essay. Whatever tool you use, make sure it is capable of generating a link that you can copy into a Word Document. Use the guidelines from the library at the University of Nevada Links to an external site. to do this (second box on the right).
    • ANY OF THESE BELONG AT THE END OF YOUR DOCUMENT IN AN APPENDIX. DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE BODY OF THE ESSAY.
    • You should have only ONE appendix, and it should have the title Appendix.

Things You Might Do:

  • Timeline
  • Biography
  • List of works by an author of about a topic
  • Country/culture context
  • Fun facts, trivia
  • Charts/Tables/Graphs/Statistics
  • Curated collection of video clips, interviews, etc.
  • Something else you come up with.
