Changes to the National AP English Exam
Changes to AP English Literature Exam
Due to our extraordinary circumstances, the following changes apply to the national exam for AP English Literature:
- You will take the exam at home.
- The exam requires use of the Internet and a computer, tablet or smart phone.
- You will take the exam on Wednesday, May 13th at 1:00 p.m. The make-up day for the exam is Tuesday, June 2nd.
- The exam is forty-five minutes long[1], with an additional five minutes allotted for uploading your response.
- The exam has one essay question (a response to a provided prose passage). There will be no multiple-choice questions, essay questions about poetry, or open essay questions.
- There are no changes to the rubric or scoring methods for the essay.
- You can type your response OR handwrite it, whichever you prefer.
- You must retrieve the exam and submit your response on the same device.
Coming at the end of April: more information about specific processes and security measures, video demonstrations of how to login, submit response, etc., and a practice simulation as a dry run.
[1] If you have a registered accommodation for extended time, that will be applied automatically to your exam.
